Baptism in Jesus' Name

The risen Lord's commission

Jesus commands repentance and remission in His name.

“Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

The first apostolic response

Peter joins repentance, Jesus-name baptism, and the Holy Ghost.

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

The pattern continues

Samaritans are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

“Only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Gentiles are commanded

Spirit reception does not cancel water baptism.

Buried with Christ

Baptism identifies believers with Christ's death and burial.

Faith in God's operation

Baptism works through faith in God's saving action.
